Skin Diagnostics UK: What 200 Customers Told Us About The Future Of Skincare

Skin Diagnostics UK

Most people buying skincare are guessing. Not because they are careless, but because the entire industry is built on guesswork rather than diagnosis.

That is the starting point for a new consumer survey commissioned by Skin United, The Beauté Group’s clinical skin longevity intelligence platform, which set out to test a simple question: does the market actually want skin diagnostics?

The answer, from 200 UK consumers, was more decisive than expected.

Diagnosis Before Guesswork

Why Skincare Does Not Work For Most People

81% of respondents said they have bought skincare products that delivered no visible result.

That is not an occasional disappointment. It is the default experience of buying skincare in the UK today.

The reason is not product quality, it is diagnosis. Skincare recommendations are still largely based on how skin looks, or on what happens to be trending that season, rather than what is actually happening beneath the surface.

You cannot solve a problem accurately if you have not identified it accurately, and eye-led diagnosis was never built for precision.

Consumer Demand

Consumer Demand For AI Skin Scans and Biomarker Testing

Two figures from the survey stand out. 71% of respondents said they would be interested in an AI skin scan combined with blood-based diagnostics, a category that barely exists yet in the UK consumer market. Demand is running ahead of supply.

71%

of respondents said they would be interested in an AI skin scan combined with blood-based diagnostics.

71%

said they would retest their skin at least once a year.

The second 71% may matter more commercially. That is the proportion who said they would retest their skin at least once a year.

Diagnostics, in other words, are not a one-off purchase. They are the start of an ongoing relationship between a consumer and their own skin biology, tracked and adjusted over time.

Recurring revenue built on a genuine health relationship between a consumer is a different proposition to a one-off product sale.

Market Growth

The Personalised Skincare Market Is The Fastest Growing Segment In The Category

Personalised and diagnostic skincare currently makes up around 5% of the total skincare market, but it is growing at 12% to 18% a year, making it the fastest moving segment in the category.

12–18% annual growth in personalised and diagnostic skincare.

Set against that backdrop, the survey results tell a consistent story from every angle: consumers are tired of guesswork, open to diagnostics, willing to commit long term, and the market is already moving towards personalisation faster than most of the industry has caught up with.

How Skin United Is Building The Future of Skin Diagnostics

Skin United was built on one conviction: that the future of skin is diagnostic, not decorative.

That you understand skin by measuring it, not by looking at it. This survey did not create that conviction, it confirmed the market is ready for it.

The platform combines AI diagnostics to read the surface with biomarker testing to read the biology beneath it, bringing both into the hands of practitioners and consumers within The Beauté Group’s clinic network.

It is part of a wider ecosystem that spans clinical treatment, device manufacturing, and practitioner training, all built around the same underlying thesis about where the industry is heading.

The Future Of Skincare

What This Means For The Future Of Skincare

For anyone evaluating the aesthetics and skincare sector right now, whether as a clinic operator, a franchise partner, or an investor, the direction of travel is consistent.

Diagnostics-led skincare is growing several times faster than the category around it, consumer appetite already exceeds what is currently available, and the businesses positioned around measurement rather than guesswork are the ones building for where the market is going, not where it has been.
